As a landscape architect for my object I looked to the land. Geology is the primary foundation for all landscape architectural projects. Geology creates the land form which directs water movement. The geology also influences both soil depths and composition. All of these elements dictate the arrangement of vegetation and the overall operation of landscape systems which landscape architects work to replicate in our projects.
Geology is a layering of history formed by immense forces of nature. In shaping my skin the mallet becomes a metaphor for these forces shaping the land form, pounding at the skin to form mountains and valleys, completely altering its appearance. Lighter, finer detailed methods like planishing becomes a further metaphor for the slow, soft effects of water and wind smoothing the exposed geology and creating beautiful flowing curves.
As a landscape architect geology is the most important element to understand and holds a substantial link to the forming of sheet metal and that is why I've chosen to model a smooth rock face.
